Bernard van Leer Foundation. A private foundation based in the Netherlands
concerned with the overall development of young children. It works
internationally in forty countries, awarding grants and sharing knowledge
with partner organizations.

and local, regional and national organizations seeking to highlight

Centre for Europe's Children. European document and information
center on child welfare, policies and rights. Site includes documents
pertaining to children's rights and a links section comprising over

The European Network of Ombudsmen for Children, (ENOC), links independent
offices for children in twelve European countries. Established in 1997,
the network seeks to encourage the fullest possible implementation of the 1989
Convention on the Rights of the Child, to support collective lobbying for
children’s rights, to foster the exchange of information and strategies,
and to promote the development of effective independent offices for children

Child Rights Information Network (CRIN). A worldwide network that
disseminates information about the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights
of the Child and child rights among NGOs, UN agencies, educational
institutions and other child rights experts. Promotes the implementation
of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and provides support
to organizations in gathering, handling, producing and disseminating
child rights information.

Defence for Children international (DCI). An independent non-governmental
organization set up in 1979 to ensure on-going, practical, systematic
and concerted international action specially directed towards promoting
and protecting the rights of the child.

European Children's Network (EURONET). A coalition of networks and
organizations working on behalf of children's interests and children's
rights, which they feel the European Union is not taking into sufficient
consideration in formulating legislation, policy, and programs.
Thanks to Euronet's efforts, the 1997 Amsterdam Treaty includes
for the first time in EU history a specific reference to children,
in addition to other provisions that can be used to foster children's
interests.

European Forum for Child Welfare (EFCW). A network of non-governmental
organizations concerned with child welfare across Europe.

Family and Corrections Network. Pivotal organization for and about
prisoners and their families. Provides information on prisoners'
children, parenting programs for prisoners, prison visiting, incarcerated
fathers and other topics through publishing, sponsoring conferences,
liaison with other agencies, presentations and consultation. Offers
training and technical assistance.

Fondation de France. Created to foster development of private sponsoring
for a wide variety of projects. Plays an active role as intermediary
between private initiatives/individuals and projects serving community
and social needs. Acts as a catalyst for getting projects off the
ground.

The European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control (HEUNI).
Serves as the European link for the network of institutes operating
within the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
Program framework. Seeks to foster international information exchanges
on crime prevention and control. Activities include research, seminars,
training courses and identification of information sources on recent
developments in crime, criminal justice and criminal policy throughout
Europe.

International Centre for Prison Studies. Conducts academic research
and projects in an effort to assist governments, international agencies,
NGOs and individuals in developing prison policy and furthering
understanding of prison and the prison process.

Observatoire International des Prisons. An independent organization
that lobbies for prisoners' rights and works to promote the fair
treatment and rehabilitation of prisoners. Publishes a series of
documents on social, health, administrative and other prisoner-related
issues.

Platform of European Social NGOs. Regroups thirty-seven European
non-governmental organizations, federations and networks working
to build an inclusive society and promote the social dimension of
the European Union.
